Talk with Eric

Every great journey begins with a conversation.

Whether you’re dreaming about your first cycling adventure, planning a river cruise, looking for an active lifestyle community, or simply wondering what’s next, I’d love to hear your story.

Sit down

Most people don’t write with an answer.
They write with a question.

In my experience, the people who reach out rarely arrive already knowing every detail. They arrive curious. Curious about trying cycling for the first time, or travelling more now that retirement has quietly opened the calendar. Curious about becoming a little healthier, meeting like-minded people, or simply what a meaningful next chapter might look like.

Some are dreaming out loud. Some are gathering courage. Some just want to ask a few honest questions before they commit to anything at all.

You don’t need to know exactly what you’re looking for. That part is my favourite — the wandering conversation that turns, somewhere along the way, into something clear and worth pursuing.

Tell me where you are today. We’ll take it from there.

I came to all of this a little later than I planned.

I discovered cycling in my early fifties — not as a sport, but as a way back into my own life. A borrowed bike, a longer ride than I thought I could finish, and the quiet shock of realising the best years were still very much ahead.

Travel came next. Italy pulled me in first — long afternoons in Tuscany, coastal roads above the Mediterranean, quiet villages that asked you to slow down. Then France, and eventually the Tour de France, watching the peloton climb the same roads I had learned to love on my own bike. Cycling gave me the pace to really see a place. Travelling gave me the reason to keep going.

PEDAL & PORT grew out of that. Not as a company, at first, but as an answer to a question friends kept asking: where should we go, and who should we go with? What I want to build is simple — a way for active adults to keep discovering the world, and themselves, because some of life’s greatest adventures can begin later than you ever imagined.

Everything we do is in service of the same idea — helping active adults stay strong, explore the world, and build meaningful friendships through cycling, travel, and the company we share along the way.

Conversations, not services.

A few of the themes people write to me about most often.

§ i

Cycling Adventures

Finding the right ride. Preparing for a first cycling trip. Building the kind of quiet confidence that turns a good week into a story you'll tell for years.

§ ii

River & Ocean Cruises

Choosing experiences that fit your travel style. Small ships. River cruising. Ocean voyages. Which itineraries reward slow attention, and which quietly don't.

§ iii

Living Actively After 50

Movement. Wellness. Travel. Reinvention. How the next chapter can actually feel like a beginning — one honest, unhurried decision at a time.

§ iv

Community

Finding your people. The long tables, the shared roads, the friendships that begin over coffee in one country and continue somewhere else entirely.

Every conversation begins the same way.
By listening.

When we talk, I’d rather understand your story first before offering any ideas or recommendations. Where you are in your life, what you’re curious about, what you’ve already tried, and what you’d quietly like to be true a year from now.

It’s a relaxed conversation. No pressure. No obligation. Whether you’re just beginning to imagine your next adventure or already deep in planning, we start in the same place — a few honest questions, and time to answer them.

The goal isn’t to sell you anything. It’s clarity, encouragement, and helping you discover the experience that feels genuinely right for you.

The Invitation

Let’s start with a conversation.
